Why is Education Important?

“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today” – Malcolm X

We have all had days where we wondered why we’re learning all these different subjects in school. From language to mathematics, what’s the point of learning all this? Is it just for the sake of exams and grades? Or does it serve a higher purpose?

We’ve been told that education is important and that it is essential for the growth and development of an individual and society as a whole. But, have you ever been told why it is so? As we go through the race of life, we tend to get carried away by everything around us and in the process, get lost. Read on, as we venture into finding answers for this age-old question together.

Let us first understand what Education truly means. It is not just about acquiring knowledge. It helps us develop reasoning and judgment and understand the world around us. If anything, education goes beyond the lessons in textbooks, it is about the lessons of life.

Throughout the course of education, we are exposed to various situations and are put in positions where we must overcome the obstacles presented to us. This develops problem-solving skills such as logical and critical thinking which are crucial to help us make informed and independent decisions in life.

Early Childhood Education lays the solid foundation upon which children can build the rest of their lives. Encouraging students to voice out their thoughts and promoting curiosity helps build the right learning mindset from a very young age. This also encourages innovation and creativity from a young age and enables children to freely express themselves.

The right education also provides equal opportunities to everyone. Students grow to be open-minded individuals and become more receptive to varying opinions from other people. This helps build respect and understand the world around them better.

Most important of all, education empowers people. It encourages us to chase after our dreams and ambitions. We become equipped with skills that help us earn a living. We understand ourselves better and become more confident in our abilities and finally, it enables us to live a prosperous and happy life.

With education turning digital in the recent past, it has made education available to virtually everyone. With resources available within our reach, it is crucial to ensure that all students have access to quality, affordable education.
